More Alpaca History

Sir Titus Salt was born in 1803 Sir Titus Salt  in Bradford, England, United Kingdom.  At 18 he joined his father in the wool trade.  At 28 he acquired his own mill in his home town.  Then upon discovering Alpaca wool in Liverpool docks he purchased it and found its qualities produced wondrous luxurious cloth.  This was found irresistible by woman of wealth and royalty.  To wear an Alpaca coat showed you were of some standing.  By the age of 40 he was one of the richest men in Yorkshire and indeed in the UK.  He built his own mill on a site joining the Leeds, Liverpool canal and the river Aire.  This was a huge mill supporting the latest designs and technology.  With his workers' in mind he built an entire village which was then called Saltaire.  This was all possible due to the humble Alpaca who we all know and love today.
