A small batch is now currently being made, please contact us for further details and estimated delivery etc.  The table was successfully used for shearing our own herd and was taken to 5 other smaller farms to shear their Alpacas.  All our customers expressed their thanks in making the shearing of their animals easier, less stressful and were delighted with the table.

Minimize your animals’ stress with this quick and effective way to restrain and shear.  This simple system takes the backache out of shearing.  

Thistledown Alpacas, in conjunction with a qualified Engineer, have carefully designed and developed a tilting table, which has a simple, but unique mechanism.   This system was designed to incorporate primarily, the welfare of the animal, plus the ease of use for the shearer.  It is user-friendly and takes the backache out of shearing.

Attached to the table is a specialist strengthened harness and bellyband, with quick release connectors.

This bellyband was designed with the pregnant females in mind; their weight is evenly distributed across their tummies.  The band supports them totally from underneath.  Once secure, the harness straps can be tightened (the straps have a locking tension system) with quick release connectors.

Stretched out

The table has a simple mechanism that is operated easily with one foot; this allows the table to pivot to the horizontal position.  The animal’s legs are then attached to the restraining yokes and simply and easily tensioned with a locking pulley system.

Once the animal is secure, the bellyband is released and shearing can commence.

The table has been designed to allow the shearer closer access to the animal. 

When shorn, the process is reversed, belly band secured, legs released, table pivoted to vertical position, belly band released and a more streamlined Alpaca walks away.

The stand holding the conventional shearing equipment (as seen in the photographs) is not included in the price but can be supplied upon request.

The table is of sturdy construction, of steel and wood.

An Advanced Qualified Rigger produces the harness system.
